Work To Do… No Excuses… PANTHER FAITHFUL!

Another very difficult weekend for us, as we dropped two more games. Acadia beat us Friday night, and SMU pounded us Saturday. At this point, we are not playing up to our standards at either end of the court. We have lost four of our last five, and currently sit in seventh place in the AUS. We have three incremental goals for our program in relation to the basketball side every year. We want to make play-offs, we want to get a bye, and we want to win the Championship. All of these goals are dependent on the first one, make the play-offs. We are well aware of our current situation. We know we all need to improve significantly in a relatively short period of time. We had a very good team meeting and video session yesterday afternoon, wherein every team member vowed to help turn this thing around. Our guys, more than ever, understand that we need to get better collectively, and most importantly, together! We will get started on the road back to where we want to be at practice today!

Every team in our league has their share of problems and concerns, injuries, etc., we are no different. We will not allow any of these problems or concerns that we have, mostly in terms of injury/illness, to be used as an excuse for where we currently sit in the standings. Here at UPEI we believe in all of our players and everyone throughout our program. I need to work harder and do a better job coaching my team, and our players need to perform up to our level of expectations. In times of adversity, true character is revealed. I know that our team will respond positively this week in practice!

I would be lying if I said that we were not happy about being at home this weekend. We have obviously had a tough stretch on the road, and look forward to playing in the PANTHER Den this Saturday and Sunday. Memorial is coming in red hot, sitting at 5-1 overall in league play. It would provide a huge lift for us if our players were to take the court Saturday night in front of a huge and boisterous throng of the PANTHER FAITHFUL!
