Panthers land Amherst captain Mark Corbett

The UPEI Panthers have bolstered their forward group with size, scoring and leadership, adding Amherst Ramblers captain Mark Corbett for the 2026-27 season.

Corbett, a 20-year-old from Harbour Main, Newfoundland, joins the Panthers after three seasons with the Amherst Ramblers. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward recorded 63 goals and 72 assists for 135 points across 136 games, while serving as captain during his final season.

Before his time in Amherst, Corbett was part of the Pinnacle Growlers U18 AAA squad that captured the Newfoundland and Labrador U18 Major Hockey League championship in 2023.

A two-way centre and power forward, Corbett brings a physical presence, offensive ability and a willingness to play in the difficult areas of the ice. His combination of size and compete level gives the Panthers another versatile option down the middle.

Panthers head coach Forbes MacPherson said adding more size was a priority for the program entering the offseason.

"When last season ended, we felt it was a priority to add some size to our roster. Mark checks that box," MacPherson said. "He is a big body and committed player. A very good teammate with strong character.

"He's a player that I watched play many times last year. He was very hard to play against and competed in the hard areas on the ice."

Corbett, who will study Business at UPEI, said the combination of hockey and academics ultimately made Charlottetown the right destination.

"I ultimately decided to join UPEI because it offered the best combination of high-level hockey and a strong academic environment," Corbett said. "From my conversations with the coaches, I felt they believed in me as both a player and a person, and I could see myself developing in their program."

With his size, scoring touch and leadership experience, Corbett will look to make an immediate impact as he makes the jump to U SPORTS hockey.
