(Halifax, N.S.)—Following yesterday's announcement regarding changes to the U SPORTS national championship schedule, Atlantic University Sport (AUS) is pleased to release revised dates for the 2022 Subway AUS Championships.
"Providing our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete for AUS championships in 2022 has been a guiding principle for us as we've navigated the challenges of the last few months," says AUS executive director, Phil Currie. "Having a longer runway to national championships gets us one step closer to that and makes room for a meaningful return to regular season and post-season competition, when possible."
The winter championship season will start with a splash March 11 through 13, when the 2022 AUS Swimming Championships—initially slated to take place at Memorial University—will be hosted by Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Memorial will now be host to the 2023 AUS Swimming Championships in St. John's, Newfoundland.
The following weekend will be action-packed across multiple sports and provinces. In Nova Scotia, the 2022 AUS Basketball Championships will return to Halifax's Scotiabank Centre, where men's and women's teams will hit the hardwood from March 18 to 20. The Windsor Curling Club will welcome the best university curlers from Atlantic Canada from March 17 through 20, when it hosts the 2022 AUS Curling Championship.
Finally, Université de Moncton will hit the ground running on March 18 and 19 as it hosts the 2022 AUS Track and Field Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick.
In men's and women's hockey and women's volleyball, playoff rounds will begin following the conclusion of regular season play.
As announced last week, AUS member schools in New Brunswick will resume competition on February 11, with the province's men's hockey, women's hockey and women's volleyball teams playing regular season games for the first time this semester. The schedule for those games is as follows:
Men's hockey Saturday, February 12 – Moncton at UNB, 7pm
Women's hockey Friday, February 11 – STU at UNB, 7pm Friday, February 11– Moncton at Mount Allison, 7pm Women's volleyball Saturday, February 12 – Moncton at UNB, 2pm
The AUS will update regular season scheduling beyond these dates as soon as public health restrictions in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island permit. All competition dates are subject to change due to evolving public health guidelines and COVID-19.
