2016 Season Preview

The UPEI men’s rugby team are expecting to have a strong 2016 season thanks to the return of a substantial number of seasoned players from the previous year. Joining the returning campaigners are an exciting set of young players, coming off successful high school and club rugby seasons, that should ensure the men play an exciting brand of rugby in 2016. The men plan to be the toughest tackling team in the league with club captain Sean Doyle leading by example.

2015 Recap

The UPEI Men’s Rugby Club once again had another successful season with a great turnout, being able to field two teams: an A squad and a B squad. Both teams shook off the rust and quickly came together with big victories over Mount Allison and St. Thomas University (STU). Both teams then worked extremely hard in practice to work up to the first of two regular season games against rival UNB, with UPEI losing a close match on UNB turf 33-24. UPEI then dug their heels in once again putting on impressive performances against Mount Allison and STU, only again to face another strong UNB squad for the second time in the season. UPEI displayed a lot of heart coming back from a 21-0 deficit to finish off the game 21-17, leaving the Panthers very hungry heading into the league finals. UPEI once again had to travel to face another tough UNB side for the league finals with UPEI missing some key players. Although UPEI put in another strong effort, they were unable to evade strong tackling by the UNB side, eventually falling 22-5.
