A night to remember for Panther hockey

A night to remember for Panther hockey

The University of Prince Edward Island will host the 2021 U SPORTS Men's Hockey Nationals in Charlottetown, however, the Men's Hockey Panthers also had a special announcement of their own.

Tuesday night, the UPEI Men's Hockey Panthers hosted their third annual Friends of Men's Hockey Molson Coors Hot Stove Lounge with special guests, Gerard Gallant, Mike Kelly, and Shane Turner. It was in that room at MacMillan Hall located in the heart of the W.A. Murphy Student Centre where head coach, Forbes MacPherson officially announced that the all-time leading Panther goal scorer, Dave Shellington, will have his banner raised to the MacLauchlan Arena rafters during the 2019-20 season.

In front of his family, friends, and colleagues, an honoured Shellington said, "I just played hockey since I was seven because I loved to play. I didn't play to win (individual) awards or any of that, I just played because I loved to play. When someone wants to recognize you for what you did as part of your career . . . it's beyond words. It's surreal to me."

The Panthers will raise the Shellington banner during alumni weekend on January 25th.

Special thanks to our photographer Janessa Hogan who was able to capture the event
